Suzie Birchwood (she/her) is a disabled dance artist, performer, educator, and creative access consultant working nationally and internationally. Her primary dance form is ballet, and she also works extensively in contemporary practice. She is an experienced wheelchair dance artist, performing across professional dance, interdisciplinary, and research-based contexts, with a practice rooted in inclusive creative practice and artistic excellence.
Suzie’s greatest achievements include being commissioned for a double bill by Sadler’s Wells, performing with Marc Brew Company, Scottish Ballet, and Ballet Cymru, and leading work that furthers access in ballet and other codified techniques through Universal Design. Through her artistic and consultancy practice, she supports organisations, teachers, and creative teams to embed access within training, rehearsal, and performance.
Alongside her dance work, Suzie is a presenter and hosts the podcast The Point. She is Co-Chair of Stopgap Dance Company, Chair of Lila Dance Company, and Patron of the National Youth Ballet. She is a mother of three boys and lives in St Albans. Suzie is an ambulant wheelchair user and lives with generalised dystonia.
