Mirthe is an ambulatory wheelchair user due to chronic illness (POTS) and medication toxicity,
which resulted in her spending two years in bed.
To help her deal with adversity, she creates conceptual art that explores topics such as women’s
health, chronic illness and disability. She enjoys being both behind and in front of the camera. Her
work has been nominated for various photography awards, featured by platforms such as Freeda
and showcased during the ‘Static Cinema’ exhibition, organized by Art-Icon in Venice.
Committed to her passion, she uses her story to empower others and raise awareness about the
importance of self-advocacy. Through her platform, she opens up about her journey of transforming
hardship into growth, strength and ultimately self-acceptance.
Besides her love for art, Mirthe enjoys experiencing the beauty of nature -especially the Arctic-,
spending time with loved ones, and exploring life’s possibilities.
