BIOGRAPHY

With an interest in theatre and acting from childhood, Geli Berg gained a Grade 5 LAMDA qualification while she was at school. She also took parts in amateur productions through evening classes in drama. She obtained her BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from the University of Manchester. In 2013 she directed, produced and narrated her first rural touring show Behind the Silken Veil -,a study of the female experience through words music and world dance genres.  

In 2003 Geli obtained an NVQ in radio production and launched a weekly two-hour magazine show on the award-winning ALL FM Community Radio in Levenshulme Manchester: Her show, Cultural Collage, went on to broadcast over 13 years and included high profile interviews with well known international musicians and politicians. 

In 2017, Geli took a professional TV acting course at DNA in Manchester. Since then, she has produced and taken lead roles in community theatre and has a developed a passion for theatre activism, specifically around diversity and women’s issues. She both produced and played Caitlin Sanford in an R&D showing of Woman of My Dreams by Rashida Mustafa at HOME in Manchester in 2018, which tackled difficult issues around Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and its impact on women of different cultural backgrounds and their intimate relationships. Her next role was as a Western journalist in The Women of Freedom Square, a devised play directed by Fereshteh Mozaffari and an otherwise all-Iranian cast, highlighting the political issues affecting women in Iran. This was shown at Journeys Festival in Manchester and subsequently at the Kings Arms in Salford.

Geli is now working on her own theatre production, Selkie Saudade, whilst studying filmmaking. She has appeared in three short films by Manchester Directors, two of were officially selected for Manchester Film Festival in 2023 – MUG (dir Jo Lane) and Maggie (dir James Kennedy) the latter of which won an award for best cinematography. Her most recent part was in A Caution for the Wise, (dir Gaius Brown) based on the novel Skendleby Nick Brown.  Outside of acting Geli works as a broadcaster, poet, singer-songwriter and world music DJ.
