Megan Wood (she/her) is a neurodivergent creative, advocate, and model living with Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, multiple rare co morbid conditions, and dynamic disability. Her conditions impact her daily life through chronic pain, fatigue, joint instability, gastrointestinal dysfunction, and fluctuating mobility needs. As an ambulant mobility aid user, she navigates the world using braces, wheelchairs, walkers, or canes as required, supported by assistive nutrition through a nasojejunal feeding tube.
With over 10 years of professional modelling experience, Megan has appeared in commercials, magazines, advertisements, runway and editorial work, and stock photography for a range of companies and platforms. In 2019, she was a Queensland State Finalist in the Miss World Australia pageant, where she raised over $10,000 for Variety – the Children’s Charity, further demonstrating her commitment to community impact and service.
Megan is also an established voice within the disability and chronic illness advocacy community, blending creative expression with lived experience. She has worked with various disability advocacy groups and has featured across multiple podcasts, disability expos, and public events as a keynote speaker. Additionally, she has written for various blogs and magazines, participated in research panels and patient experience groups, and contributed to both state and federal disability and inclusion initiatives. Through advisory groups and leadership roles, she has helped facilitate meaningful change within the Australian Public Sector and beyond.
Her advocacy journey began early. In 2012, Megan was awarded the National Leo of the Year for her community service with Lions Australia, followed by the International Leo of the Year (2013). These roles saw her travelling nationally and internationally to deliver keynote presentations, lead training sessions, and encourage young people of all abilities to engage in community service. She continues to bring this passion into her disability advocacy and representation today.
Megan’s ambitions include expanding disability representation in media and creative industries, increasing awareness of dynamic and invisible disabilities, and championing accessible, inclusive environments. Her goal is to amplify the voices of disabled and chronically ill people and contribute to shifting how disability diversity is portrayed and understood.
Outside of advocacy, Megan is passionate about travelling, photography, fashion, and storytelling. She enjoys exploring new places, connecting with community, and creating work that centres visibility, empowerment, and authenticity.
