Tiktok: @bernadettehagans - 96kI am a young persons ambassador for CLIC Sargent where I raise awareness for cancer in young people. Being an ambassador has allowed me to meet and interact with so many young people to give them advice to help them cope better with experiencing cancer. I’ve also given speeches in schools and techs, I’ve been out fundraising in the streets and also recruiting fundraisers at stalls in different locations. I am also a part of the YPRG for CLIC Sargent so I regularly have meetings with head office to discuss how things are running and how they should improve, all of my thoughts and decisions are taken onboard. I also help run the YouTube account for CLIC Sargent where we have recorded a lot of videos discussing the most asked questions so that this is another source of information for young people experiencing cancer. I’m also one of 2 young people picked across the UK to be a part of the digital practise team for CLIC Sargent, this involves coming up with innovative ways to allow better communication between young people with cancer, their nurses, social workers and oncologists - we believe we can keep making a better use of social media and technology.I’m also an ambassador for the Boom Foundation, this is NI’s only sarcoma charity. I’m constantly raising awareness and have even given speeches for this charity to the head specialists, doctors, oncologists etc and I’m proud to be a voice for the people here that have experienced sarcoma. I’m also an ambassador for the Cancer Fund for Children. We have a lodge here for families experiencing cancer to come and completely relax and be taken care of. It is the most amazing place I’ve ever experienced for someone with cancer to just completely unwind and have cancer taken off their mind. I have given a speech for this charity in Parliament in front of MPs and organisations, I’ve been the host for their inaugural event and I’ve also helped with ideas for opening a new lodge in the south of Ireland so that a border doesn’t limit this service for people. I am also creating a book for young people with cancer experiencing limb loss for this charity as I want people in this situation to know that they can still live a happy life with a disability. I’ve given talks to young people, even with COVID-19 I’ve been able to continue this through zoom. I have had my own massive fundraiser for CLIC Sargent, The Boom Foundation and Target Ovarian which had radio, news & tv coverage and I’m constantly using these resources to raise awareness. I have also done social media takeovers for CLIC Sargent & Macmillan Cancer Support as I continue to share my story to show others that they can keep going, I try to always keep people hopeful and positive that things will get better through their journey.
