Kai began his career as a mechanic before a motorbike accident left him without functional use of his left arm, pushing him to rethink his path. He returned to education, excelled in social sciences, and went on to study psychology at university. A series of complex spinal issues led to multiple surgeries, periods of paralysis, and severe chronic pain, but Kai refused to give up.
Through intensive neurorehabilitation and a deep dive into pain science, he discovered the biopsychosocial approach and used it to come off medication and rebuild his life. He completed his psychology degree with first‑class honours, earned awards for his academic and community work, and now speaks publicly for the Flippin’ Pain campaign while completing an MSc in Health Psychology.
Alongside his academic and advocacy work, Kai continues to make music, perform spoken word, train in the gym, practise yoga, and document his journey on social media (@guidedbykai). He is currently developing a podcast, The Guided By Series, exploring how people navigate complex lives with resilience and creativity.
